Trefid Spoon, 1691

Details

This William & Mary period silver spoon is a fine example of the trefid form with a striking rattail to the reverse bowl and the interesting feature of tiny ears between the lobes. The spoon appears to have originally been given as a gift as can be seen from the engraved inscription to the reverse of the terminal. There is a fine set of hallmarks to the reverse stem with a particularly good example of the "LI" makers mark for the specialist spoonmaker Lawrence Jones. The spoon has a good, sturdy weight and the overall condition and colour are excellent with nothing negative to report. A fine spoon.
