Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Elizabeth Tookey was the widow of the specialist spoonmaker James Tookey and this silver table spoon is a fine example from this lady silversmith.

This good quality Georgian spoon has a good hefty feel and the engraved lion crest to the Old English Pattern terminal is a further sign of the spoon's calibre. It bears a legible set of bottom-struck hallmarks including an excellent example of the "ET maker's mark within a widow's lozenge. The spoon is in fine condition with a thick bowl tip.

The silver spoonmaker James Tookey was apprenticed to Henry Greene in 1733 and working through to the 1760's until at least 1766, when his son Thomas became his apprentice. Following his death, his wife took over the family business and ran the spoon making workshop until Thomas became free in May 1773 and entered his first mark in October of the same year.
