Caddy Spoon - Fluted Bowl - Birmingham 1811 by William Wardell - 3.9cm x 4.8cm wide - TG/1991

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

Unlike the vast majority of silver caddy spoons, this example has the oval bowl set at right angles to the handle. The bowl is attractively fluted and the hallmarks are located to the looped, wire handle.

John Norie in his book "Caddy Spoons: An Illustrated Guide" (pages 45-46) describes the owner of the maker's mark on this spoon as "the mysterious W" as unusually it consists merely of a single letter. He goes on to reveal the maker as William Wardell; a scarcely encountered Birmingham silversmith who appears to have made little else beyond caddy spoons.

The spoon is in excellent condition.
