George IV Silver Vinaigrette, 1821 R Mitchell

This is a fine example of a Georgian silver vinaigrette made during the short working period of the Birmingham silversmith Robert Mitchell.

The exterior of the box is decorated with engraved leaf motifs to the centre and bordered either side with foliate strap work, the design of which is repeated for the thumb-lift. The interior is gilt and has a prettily pierced and engraved hinged grille centred by a flower-head. the condition is excellent throughout with good, crisp engraving and original gilding.
