Montrose Silver Table Spoon, 1760 by Thomas Johnston

Table Spoon - Hanoverian Pattern - Montrose circa 1760 by Thomas Johnston - 20.4cm long; 71g - FS/2705
This is a spectacular Scottish provincial silver table spoon made in Montrose by Thomas Johnston.
Dating from the mid-18th century this Georgian spoon is earlier than the majority of Scottish provincial spoons that can be found and is in the Hanoverian pattern which was the major flatware design of the 18th century. The quality is excellent with the spoon having a good, hefty feel in the hand and the condition superb with a thick bowl tip and lovely antique patina.
The reverse terminal is engraved in Scottish style with a crest surmounted by a motto which reads "I Am Ready". The shank is clearly struck with three stamps - "TI" for Thomas Johnston, the rose of Montrose and a letter "B". Johnston was working in Montrose during the 1740's and 50's.
A fabulous spoon with rarity, age, interest, quality and condition all adding up to give a very desirable piece.
