Salisbury Ladles (pair) - Canon-handled - London 1936 by Richard Comyn - 38cm (15") long; 320g combined weight - LM/1517

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

These are a fantastic quality pair of canon-handled silver serving spoons typical of the basting spoon type to be found in the late 17th century. They were made by Richard Comyn of London on command of the Fishmongers Livery to celebrate George VI's coronation in 1937. They remain in superb condition and have a terrific length and hefty weight.

Both of these huge spoons are engraved around the outside rim of the bowl "Copy of the Salisbury Ladle, 1684, given to the Fishmongers Livery on the Coronation of King George, VI, 12th May 1937", plus they are engraved to the centre with two crests; one with two  hands vested holding an imperial crown (Fishmongers Company) and the other a lion’s head erased ducally crowned.

The Worshipful Company of Fishmongers is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London and was first incorporated almost 750 years in 1272.
