Caddy Spoon - Bright-cut Engraved & Shell Bowl - London 1790 by Peter & Jonathan Bateman - 7.6cm long; 7g - CE/1928

Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an exceptionally rare Georgian silver caddy spoon made by the short lived partnership of Peter & Jonathan Bateman.

This attractive George III period caddy spoon is in one of the Bateman family workshop's trademark designs with a deep shell-shaped bowl and bright-cut engraved handle with monogram. The spoon is in excellent condition with crisp decoration and clear hallmarks.

The PB/IB maker's mark of Peter & Jonathan Bateman is a highly desirable and very rarely found mark on English silver. Its scarcity is due to the short-lived partnership between the two sons of Hester Bateman following her retirement in 1790; Jonathan died within six months of the partnership's founding. All pieces emanating from this partnership were made during the same date letter year of 1790/91 (between 7th December 1790 and 2nd May 1791) and bear the "p" date letter. A further bonus is that the PB/IB mark on this caddy spoon is very crisp and clear.
