Set of 6 Hester Bateman Silver Dessert Spoons, 1780

Silver dessert spoons made by the lady silversmith Hester Bateman are relatively scarce and this is a great set in fine condition. 

They have a beautifully engraved letter "F" to the front terminals of their Old English pattern design. As the spoons pre-date 1781 when top-marking was introduced, the hallmarks are struck on the lower section of the stem and for bottom-struck marks are in good legible condition with clear date letters (one is "d" for 1779 and the other five "e" for 1780) and fine examples of the desirable Hester Bateman maker's mark.
