Shrewsbury Silver Caddy Spoon, 1788 Richard Evans
Sold
Caddy Spoon - Bright-cut engraved; fluted bowl - London 1788 by Richard Evans - 9cm long; 12.1g - EB/3463
This good-looking silver tea caddy spoon bears the "RE" maker's mark of the Shrewsbury retailer Richard Evans.
The spoon has attractive bright-cut engraving to the handle and an elongated, fluted bowl. This spoon is typical of the spoons made by the famous Hester Bateman and as she was a known supplier to Richard Evans it is likely this piece emanated from her workshop and was later over-stamped by Evans (an underlying maker's mark can just be seen poking out from behind the "RE" mark). The spoon is in excellent condition.
