This rare antique silver wine label is pierced with the title "SILLERY".
Made in Birmingham by Matthew Linwood, this bottle ticket is decorated with vine and grapes around the central banner containing the title. The hallmarks are partially lost in the piercing, but importantly the conjoined ML maker's mark, the Birmingham anchor and date letter "t" can all be made out. This Regency period silver label remains in fine condition.
Sillery is a champagne growing area in the north east French region of Marne famed for its 100% Grand Cru champagnes. It was the most highly regarded growing area of Champagne during the 18th century.
