Wine Label - Paxaretti; Cut-cornered Rectangle - London 1793 by John Rich - 4.3cm wide - AR/4007a

Paxaretti is a very rare title on silver wine labels and this late 18th century example is in fine condition (n.b. scratch under title).

Made in London by John Rich, this cut-cornered George III period bottle ticket bears clear, appropriate hallmarks and hangs from its original chain.

Paxarette was popular as a dessert wine in England in the 18th century. The Spanish name is pajarete which when pronounced sounds like "Paxaretti" (soft "x"), thus the misspelling on this label! The wine gets its name from the monastry and vineyard near the town of Arcos De La Frontera in the Cadiz province of southern Spain.
