Toddy Ladle - Fiddle Pattern - Tain circa 1820 by Alexander Stewart - 16.5cm long; 26g - BS/1746

This is a very rare and attractive Georgian silver toddy ladle made in the Scottish provincial town of Tain.

This antique fiddle pattern ladle has a circular bowl and nice elegant feel in the hand. The front terminal is free from engravings with no erasures and has a crisp set of these much sought after marks that includes the "TAIN" town mark and the "AS" mark for Alexander Stewart. It is in excellent condition throughout.

Tain is Scotland's oldest Royal burgh and is a small northern town in Ross-shire. In silver terms, the town produced a small quantity from a number of highly accomplished silversmiths and the "TAIN" town stamp is seen as a must-have mark for collectors of Scottish provincial silver.
