Sorry, this item is out of stock.

This is an outstanding silver trefid spoon and a first class exemplar of the form.

Dating from the first year of the reign of William III and Mary II, this top quality trefid spoon has everything you would want in a 17th century example: good hefty weight of over 2 troy ounces, superb condition and crisp, cleanly struck hallmarks - you will go a long way to find better!

The spoon was made by Thomas Allen who was a specialist spoonmaker that had been apprenticed to John King in 1668 and who went on to teach some of the finest spoonmakers of the early 18th century: Isaac Davenport and Henry Greene numbering amongst them. The spoon portrays a great example of his "TA" maker's mark.

The reverse terminal is engraved with original initials and the reeded rattail remains bold and prominent. Just look at the bowl - it retains its original thick tip and is in superb unworn condition! Just look at the hallmarks too - they are fabulous!
