Top Quality Set Hourglass Silver Sauce Ladles, 1820

These are a superb set of four matching Georgian silver sauce ladles in the King's Hourglass pattern.

The ladles have a really heavy weight averaging about 120 grams each (generally sauce ladles weigh about 80 grams) and are early examples from the workshop of one of the 19th century's premier silversmiths - Francis Higgins. The front terminals are engraved with an original crest depicting a hand holding a pair of scales and the motto "Probitate" which translates to "Honesty" - worthy of further research to determine the orginal owner as these are a classy set of ladles!

King's Hourglass pattern is especially vulnerable to wear, but the decoration on these ladles remains crisp with particularly clear hour glass motifs. These are a truly fabulous set of silver sauce ladles in superb condition.
