George Unite Loop Handled Caddy Spoon, 1877

Caddy Spoon - Loop handle with scallop bowl - Birmingham 1877 by George Unite - 72mm long - Ref. No.: DW/1765

George Unite was unique in producing the distinctive loop handle caddy spoon as seen on this example. The hollow handle was applied with a vine leaf motif and attached to a variety of different bowls. In this example the bowl is in the form of one half of a scallop shell. The difficulties in adding such a handle to each bowl can be seen on this piece where the original solder to the underside of the bowl/handle join is a little untidy - this is not a repair, but was deemed satisfactory by the makers as it was hidden from view during use. This spoon is in excellent condition with a clear set of Victorian hallmarks.
