Hester Bateman Silver Caddy Spoon, c.1780

This is an excellent example of a scarce style of silver caddy spoon from the Bateman workshop. 

Made by the famous Hester Bateman, this good-looking caddy spoon has a shell-shaped bowl with flat cuff handle. The spoon was made prior to the addition of a date letter on small spoons and so dates from the 1775 - 1780 period. The sought-after script "HB" maker's mark is in fine condition and the spoon overall is excellent.
