Paul Storr Silver Sugar Sifter Spoon, 1813

Sugar Sifter Spoon - London 1813 by Paul Storr - 14.2cm long; 74g - BY/5350
This is a lovely quality Regency period silver sugar sifter spoon made by the great Paul Storr.
The spoon is in the popular King's Hourglass pattern with super-crisp double-struck decoration throughout with an engraved crest to the front terminal surmounted by a baron's coronet.
An unusual feature of this spoon is that the reverse side of the bowl is pierced with a typically decorative design but the bowl itself has a clever insert with drilled holes to reduce the flow of sugar - this insert may well have been added at the time of manufacture on the request of the aristocratic client and provides the spoon with an interesting backstory.
This sugar sifeter spoon is in fine condition with a good set of hallmarks including the all-important PS maker's mark.
